First off, the editing in the first book is great, maybe I couple of typos that I could find, but it made me very jealous ;) Well written, all around. I found the plot original and gripping and I could hardly put it down. The world is original and compelling. Twists were strange and unexpected and, lo and behold, even though the book is part of a series, the end was actually rewarding and wrapped up the main plot rather well in an unexpected way.
Five stars to Cassandra Clare.
-Paragraphs are separated at odd points throughout the narration. Generally a break in the narration (the classic *** or a space or any other cutsy symbol) means that time has passed or the narration changed location. Not in this book. Paragraph are broken at random points in the middle of scenes making it a bit confusing at times.
Also, I typically like books that have a bit more introspection, but I sure enjoyed reading this novel.
I immediately bought book 2. I’ll let you know how it goes ;)
Who am I to judge your favorite books?
For the purpose of reviewing I am just an avid reader, really. It always strikes me how loving a book is a subjective affair. If you are a writer, read the reviews of your favorite book ever and see how it might have changed some lives and yet some other peeps hated it. It’s all good. Just keep writing; your book is going to save somebody else’s life one day ^_^
